Work Based Learning

Mission for Work-Based Learning in Career and
Technical Education (CTE)

Mission Statement

Work-Based Learning is a key component of Career and Technical Education designed to provide students with meaningful, real-world experiences that connect classroom instruction to industry standards. Through partnerships with employers, community organizations, and industry professionals, students develop technical skills, employability skills, and professional behaviors necessary for success in postsecondary education, careers, and lifelong learning.

Work-Based Learning empowers students to

  • Apply academic and technical knowledge in authentic workplace settings.
  • Develop critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  • Explore career pathways and make informed decisions about future education and employment opportunities.
  • Build professional networks and gain exposure to industry standards, expectations, and emerging technologies.
  • Demonstrate career readiness through hands-on experiences, internships, apprenticeships, job shadowing, service learning, and industry projects.

By integrating classroom learning with workplace experiences, the WBL program prepares students to become skilled, responsible, and productive members of the workforce while meeting the evolving needs of local and global industries.
