Overview
The Academy of Software Engineering is one of three Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways offered at Richmond Hill High School. In our program, students dive into exciting, hands-on coding projects using Python while developing essential skills in computational thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and critical analysis.
As a New York State-approved CTE pathway, the Academy opens doors to valuable real-world experiences, including internships and job shadowing opportunities with leading companies. Students build important 21st-century skills like collaboration, effective communication, and professional confidence. Upon successfully completing all program requirements, students earn a CTE endorsement on their diploma, a distinctive achievement that sets them apart as they pursue their college and career goals.
Our students have had amazing opportunities to connect classroom learning with the real world. Past Academy students have landed internships at prestigious organizations like JPMorgan Chase, Bloomberg, and the New York City Department of Health. Students have also participated in a Queens South District Superintendent internship to redesign their website, visited cutting-edge companies like Nanotronics and Accenture, competed in the NASA App Development Challenge and Minecraft Battle of the Boroughs, joined career talks with professionals from NASA, Google, and Amazon, and explored college campuses which are all experiences designed to help them discover their passions and envision their future paths.
