Superintendent Van-Ess welcomes in the new year for Queens South, shares some of her inspirations, passions, and hopes for the school communities.

I am dr. Josephine YeBoah Van-Ess, proud superintendent of Queens South High Schools. Welcome to a new school year; the year of intentionality, innovation and impact. Who am I? I am Josephine most people who know me well call me Josie I am the second-year superintendent proud to serve the Queen South High School Community I was born I'm in Brooklyn but raised in South Jamaica Queens and so for me to be able to do this work in Queens South is like is he works for me if I walk the hallways at I walk different classmates I see prior students I see our friends dropping off their kids and I know that I get to contribute in a very special way and being able to lead with l a teacher's educators of this community and so it is truly a privilege and honor I love you that key art literacy anything's a tree help to showcase the creative self know I love to go into our schools and just be our children hope in the academic setting but that level of artistic natural talents and abilities show up as well what am I excited about every new school year a new opportunity for us to reach New Heights and so welcoming out students in welcoming back our Educators is welcoming back our community I'm always excited about the potential in a new house that we get to reach prioritizing ensuring that our work is intentional intentionally partner with our community of families what is to ensure that our schools reached the heights that they need to reach we are prioritizing ensuring the wellness of our leaders our students and our schools this year we are watching the reset button in it launched and created by students our scholar Collective that we are providing opportunities for the students that live in South High School this year Queen South High School before creating a new accelerated High School option for our students so as Queen South High School's our schools are charged with Class B of the future what do 21st century classic look like real life in order to better engage them in the South really looking at them stem Pathways stem opportunities while children in order to deepen the learning and engagement flower student outcomes this year we will be in Flint sing the I am curriculum curriculum as well as directed reading across our district school we are always looking to make sure that I'll soon leave our high school college and career-ready ensuring that they College awareness but also career connected opportunities apprenticeships and pathways the message that I have for the school community is to show up as your best self show up for our students show up for our community be joy and bring joy into this work as you lead. men's score and support do so from a place of love and high expectations and as we say here in Queens how high schools like seeds with Junior chewable grow continues to plant excellent let's have an amazing school year
